Badger 5 Reviews
The product description for the InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal sounds great. Unfortunately, the reviews from people who have bought and used this disposer would disagree for the most part. Sure, there were some positive reviews but the negative ones outweigh the positive by a pretty significant margin.
The people that liked the Badger 5 say that it is a good disposal for the price. Some people report using this item for years without any problems. The bad news is that these people are probably the lucky ones. Far more people left reviews complaining about the fact that their disposers died just after two years, four years, or four and a half depending on the reviewer. The number of people that would call this disposer a piece of junk out number the people that would call it a quality item by almost 2 to 1.
Just about everyone agreed that the InSinkErator Badger 5 1/2 HP garbage disposal is easy to install and priced well but when it comes to doing the job it is supposed to do and lasting longer than a few short years the Badger 5 doesn’t seem to cut it.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
Great site. A lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends!
Great information! I’ve been looking for something like this for a while now. Thanks!
it was very interesting to read.
I want to quote your post in my blog. It can?
And you et an account on Twitter?
The Badger 5 is a cheap dispoal. Our unit failed after a few years. What a mess! Get a Kitchen Aid. You will save time and money over the life of the unit.
The motor did not fail but the plastic disposal chamber cracked. Augh, a slow leak we didn’t noticed immediately and it nearly ruined our cabinet. We don’t abuse it with a lot of waste. So disappointing it lasted only 3 years. Searching the net for a decent unit that will last at least 5 to 7 years.
Can’t find enough info on the material of which these the chambers are composed.
Just FYI. We had our Badger 5 for four years. Leaked from the bottom. Cost $225.00 to replace and have installed. Plumber recommended replacing with the same. I will give it one more try and if I have a problem will replace it with a more reliable model.
I think this garbage disposal will work fine. If I purchase it now I figure it’s $80-$120 and it will last way more than half the time of those really expensive ones. To me that seems like the best value. I know a couple that has one installed and they tell me it does the job for them.
Great price, at least average performance, I’m in.
Despite poor reviews, I decided to have this one intalled. I have a good/honest plumber to install the appliance. He said it’s a “builder model” which is ok , as my last garbage was put in by the builder and lasted very many years until I ran a peach pit down
the drain. The price is much lower than the next one up.
Before, I put these in my own house, by myt uf
Well mine went about 6 years and 6 months. Paid 89 from Home Depot, and it failed by leaking in the bottom. Next time I go with a stainless steel grind chamber if it doesn’t cost twice as much. If it does, then I’ll replace it with this unit. Not bad, just failed via leakage. It still runs, but has to be replaced, which is why I’m here.
If I find a decent unit in all stainless steel grind chamber I’ll post again.
had it for a bit over two years and it is broken…I’m guessing made in China shi@ that is made with crap parts. Will not buy one of these again!
